A tour to marvel at and visit several UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Emilia Romagna: starting from the Po’ Delta to the porticoes of Bologna… with special focus on local food and wine.

ItinerarY

First day: Piacenza

We are going to arrive in Piacenza, meet the guide and visit Piacenza’s most popular sights, such as Palazzo Farnese, Piazza dei Cavalli, Palazzo Pubblico and the Cathedral, the Basilica di S. Antonino and the Teatro Municipale (City Theatre). We are going to relocate to a wine cellar, visit it and have a tasting of three local wines and local food products. Then we are going to walk through the vineyards. Check-in to a 4-star hotel in Piacenza. Dinner at the restaurant, return to the hotel and overnight stay.

Second day: Piacenza – Fontanellato – Parma

After breakfast we are going to relocate to Fontanellato and visit this ancient village as well as the Rocca Sanvitale, a fortress residence in the centre of the town. Then, we are going to relocate to Parma. Free time will be given for lunch upon arrival in the city. In the afternoon, we are going to visit Palazzo Ducale and its Garden and then visit Palazzo della Pilotta. Check-in to a 4-star hotel in Parma. Then we are going to have dinner with local food products, go back to the hotel and have an overnight stay.

Third day: Parma – Reggia di Colorno

After breakfast, we are to visit the Duomo of Parma and walk down the streets surrounding Piazza Garibaldi, where we can find the City Hall and the Governor’s Palace. We are going to visit the interior of the Chiesa di Santa Maria della Steccata. Time will be given for lunch. In the afternoon, we are going to relocate to the Reggia di Colorno for a guided tour. Then, we are going back to Parma. Dinner at the restaurant, return to the hotel and overnight stay.

Fourth day: Parma – Torrechiara – Reggio Emilia

We are going to have breakfast at the hotel. We are going to spend the entire morning discovering the hills surrounding the town of Torrechiara and its castle. At the end of the visit, we are going to stop at local producer of Culatello di Zibello PDO, a local cold cut mainly produced in this area of Northern Italy. We are going to visit the wine cellar and have a tasting of local food products. In the afternoon, we are going to relocate to Reggio Emilia and check-in to a 4-star hotel. Dinner (not included in the offer) and overnight stay.

Fifth day: Reggio Emilia – Modena

After breakfast, we are going to visit Reggio Emilia’s old town. We begin with Piazza Grande, today known as Piazza Prampolini, to visit the Duomo, the Battistero and the City Hall. Then, we are going to visit the Basilica della Ghiara, the Basilica di San Prospero until we get to the Piazza dei Teatri. We are going to visit a cheese factory and have a cheese tasting of local Parmesan cheese.  Then, we are going to relocate to Modena.  We are going to visit the old town, including Piazza Grande, the Duomo and the torre della Ghirlandina, all listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Then, we are going to visit the Galleria Estense. Check-in to a 3 or 4-star hotel in Modena. Dinner at the restaurant, return to the hotel and overnight stay.

Sixth day: Modena – Bologna

After breakfast, we are going to visit the Museum dedicated to Enzo Ferrari in Modena. Then, we are going to visit an authentic vinegar factory, where the popular “Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena” PDO is produced, and a have a vinegar tasting. In the afternoon, we are going to relocate to Bologna and check-in to a 3 or 4-star hotel. Free time. Dinner at the restaurant, return to the hotel and overnight stay.

Seventh day: Bologna

After breakfast, we are going to spend the entire day visiting Bologna. We begin from Piazza Malpighi, where the apse of the Chiesa di San Francesco stands, beside the 13th century tombe dei Glossatori. We head towards Piazza Maggiore, in the heart of the city, where we are going to visit the interior of the Basilica di San Petronio. We are going to visit the exterior of Palazzo d’Accursio, Palazzo dei Banchi, Palazzo del Podestà and Palazzo dei Notai. We continue until Piazza Nettuno, and visit the famous Fountain and the Palazzo Re Enzo. We are going to stop for lunch near Mercato di Mezzo, a market of medieval origin. Early in the afternoon we are going to reach the Due Torri (Two Towers) and we continue up to the Basilica di Santo Stefano. Lastly, we are going to visit the Chiesa di San Domenico and the Chiesa di Santa Maria della Vita. Dinner at the restaurant, return to the hotel and overnight stay.

Eighth day: Bologna – Dozza

After breakfast, we are going to relocate and visit Dozza, medieval village decorated with frescoes by famous painters. Dozza is a true open-air art gallery: there are more than one hundred paintings made on the walls of shops and houses among the alleys of this village. Lunch at the restaurant. At the end of the lunch, we are going back to the place of arrival and that is the end of our services. Possible additions or integrations may be added to the main program based on the client’s preferences.
