An itinerary through the hills of Maremma, where we are going to visit hilltop villages built in tuff and marvel at stunning country landscapes.

ItinerarY

First day: Montepulciano – Pienza – Bolsena

We are going to arrive in Montepulciano, meet the guide and have a guided tour of the old town. We begin with the Tempio di S. Biagio, and continue with Piazza Grande, where we are going to see the Cathedral, the City Hall, Palazzo Cantucci, and Palazzo Nobili-Tarugi. For lunch we are going to taste Orcia Valley typical cuisine in a local inn. We head to Pienza, a town rich in history and art. The tour includes a visit to the Cathedral, to the Renaissance monuments, to the medieval districts and to the panoramic streets overlooking the beautiful landscape of Orcia Valley, declared UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. At the end of the visits, we are leaving for Bolsena and check-in to a 4-star hotel. Dinner at the restaurant and overnight stay.

Second day: Pitigliano – Sorano – Civita di Bagnoregio – Bolsena

After breakfast, we are leaving for a guided tour of Pitigliano, beautiful village perched on a rocky outcrop in the heart of the Maremma. We continue on with Sorano, added to the list of the 10 most beautiful villages in Italy in 2014. The Fortress of Sorano is particularly interesting. Lunch at the restaurant. We continue on with Civita di Bagnoregio, known as “the dying city”. We are going to have a guided tour of the town which is one of a kind. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

Third day: Orivieto

After breakfast, we are leaving for Orvieto, located on an enourmous platform made of tuff with a height ranging between 65 and 100 feet, strategically located and overlooking the deep valley below. The tour begins from Rocca Albornoz, until we get to the famous Pozzo di San Patrizio. After having walked down Via Postierla we are going to reach Piazza del Duomo to marvel at one of Italy’s greatest medieval architectural projects: the Duomo of Orvieto. Walking along Via del Duomo, among workshops, shops selling traditional food and traditional bars, we are going to get in fron of the Torre del Moro and from here we go to Piazza della Repubblica, where there are the grand City Hall and the Chiesa di S. Andrea. Lunch with traditional food products. After lunch, we are going back to the place of arrival and that is the end of our services. Possible additions or integrations may be added to the main program based on the client’s preferences.

ADDITIONAL TOURS

Saturnia

The small town of Saturnia is located on top of a hill overlooking the famous thermal springs. You can visit the Archeological Museum of Saturnia, where artifacts found in the area are on display. The artifacts are dated from prehistoric times to the Roman age. You could also relax in one of the thermal baths.

Maremma Natural Park

Maremma Regional Park is a 9000-hectare green oasis stretching along the coastline between Principina a Mare and Talamone, in the municipalities of Grosseto, Magliano in Tuscany and Orbetello. An extensive territory owing its charm to the diversity of landscapes and to the range of colours shifting with the seasons.
